The Kilkenny Choir

Musical Director

Thomas Kehoe is a masters graduate of University College Dublin and University of Cambridge and has held previous positions as Director of Music with UCD Philharmonic Choir and Principal Guest Conductor of Mullingar Choral Society. He is currently MD of Ballinteer Male Voice Choir and The Amici Singers, while holding the post of organist in Kilmacud Parish. Thomas moved to Kilkenny in 2016 and has immersed himself in the musical culture of the city, notably performing with St Canice’s Cathedral Choir, singing in Kilkenny Arts Festival and accompanying the award-winning choirs of Presentation Secondary School.

Choir Accompanist

A native of Kilbride, Carlow, Yvonne began her studies at the Cork School of Music. She then moved to the UK to study under two internationally renowned pianists, the Irish pianist/composer, Philip Martin and Italian pianist, Victor San Giorgio at the Birmingham Conservatoire. She graduated with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Piano Performance and a Master of Arts in Piano Performance.

Yvonne has had the opportunity to further her studies through masterclasses with internationally renowned pianists including John Lill, Peter Donohoe,  Balaz Szokolay, Vladimir Tropp, Martin Roscoe, Peter Jablonski, and Piers lane to name a few.

Since college Yvonne has given performances across Ireland and in the UK. Television appearances include the Late, Late Show, The Late Late Toy Show, Nationwide and the RTE All Island School Choir of the Year Competition as well as live performances on RTE Radio One and has been broadcasted on Lyric FM.  Concerto performances include guest soloist for the Proms in Cork with the Grieg Piano Concerto, the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto with the Wexford Sinfonia and Mozart Concerto in A major with the Queen’s Park Sinfonia in the UK.

Yvonne has worked as accompanist to many choirs including Carlow Choral Scoiety, Kilkenny Choir, Aspiro, Wexford Festival Singers, Gorey Choral Group, Enniscorthy Choral Group, Inver Ladies Choir, Wicklow Male Voice Choir and Vocare vocal group. She was delighted to be working with Vocare who were invited to premier Carol Barnett’s Bluegrass Mass in Carnegie Hall, New York in March 2013. She has also work with the Irish Youth Chamber Choir under conductor Greg Beardsell and participated in choral workshops with renowned conductor Doreen Rao.

Yvonne also undertakes much Repetiteur work and was part of the specially commissioned opera for Carlow – “Shelter Me From The Rain” by Brian Irvine performed in the GB Shaw Theatre in Carlow where she featured as guest player with the National Symphony Orchestra. Since then she has performed again with members of the NSO for the Irish Premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass in Carlow Cathedral with the Aspiro choir.

Opera is another passion for Yvonne and she has spent time in Belfast working as Repetiteur with Northern Ireland Opera under conductor Fergus Sheil. She was part of the performance of Irish Operas as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad performing in Queen Elizabeth Hall, London. The season also featured Britten’s Noah’s Flood performed outdoors in the wonderful surroundings of Belfast Zoo. She has also worked as Repetiteur with the Lismore Opera Festival and Wide Open Opera.

In 2016 Yvonne was accompanist for the specially commissioned  choral work “One Hundred Years A Nation” composed by Shaun Davey and conducted by David Brophy for the 1916 Easter Sunday anniversary in Ireland in conjunction with the Arts Council and RTE television.

Another highlight of Yvonne’s career has been working as piano tutor to Irish actress Saoirse Ronan on Neil Jordan’s most recent film Byzantium which resulted in Yvonne being featured on both local and national newspapers in Ireland and the UK and also a guest on the John Murray Radio Show. In 2017 she has worked with another young Irish actor on the film ‘Muse’.

Yvonne is in great demand as an accompanist and has performed with many renowned artists including Soprano Celine Byrne, Rebecca Storm, the Eurovision winner Eimear Quinn, Deirdre Masterson, Regina Hanley, Nyle Wolfe, Declan Kelly (The Three Tenors), David O’Leary and has toured with the Irish Sopranos. She is also the official accompanist for Carlow Choral Society, Kilkenny Choir and The Cornmarket Project Choir based in Wexford.

Yvonne also enjoys working with Musical Societies and has worked with the Rathmines & Rathgar Musical Society (Dublin), Wexford Light Opera Society (Wexford), Oyster Lane Musical Society (Wexford), New Ross Musical Society (Wexford), St. Michael’s Theatre Group (Wexford), Bray Musical Society (Wicklow), HXT Musical Society (Dublin) Enniscorthy Musical Society (Wexford), Carnew Musical Society (Wicklow), Kilkenny Musical Society (Kilkenny) and has worked on numerous school productions.

 

Yvonne’s current project is the launch of her new accompanying website www.pianosoundz.com where tracks can be downloaded to sing or play along to in preparation for exams, concerts or simple enjoyment.
